This is the seventh edition of Altra’s standard last light-weight trail running shoe. It features a wide toe box with a nice locked-in feel from the burrito style tongue over the midfoot and low volume heel. When runners in Salida, Co want a zero drop trail runner for shorter durations and uptempo workouts this is the shoe we point them towards. It has 21mm of stack height combined with their StoneGuard so you can confidently blast out faster workouts without killing your feet!
Technologies
Altra’s signature rubber outsole is excellent for the dry, sandy and loose terrain found in the mountains surrounding Salida, Co.
The 4mm lugs of the Men’s Altra Superior 5 are angled to increase traction when running uphill and downhill. Each lug cuts into the terrain when running downhill while providing a larger surface area on the backside to keep feet stabilized when running up steep ascents.
Specific to many Altra Running footwear models, the Quantic midsole is Altra’s lightest and most responsive. It is made specifically for those headed out for shorter and or more uptempo efforts on trail.
The removable Stoneguard provides runners added protection when needed on rocky and variable terrain while having the option to remove it on manicured trails. This flexible rock plate is approximately 2mm thick and allows trail runners to get information from their feet without abusing the metatarsal pads, arch and heels.
